End of school year seems an absolute age off doesn't it? And so much remains unknown.
There are some 'traditional' end of term rites of passages we are trying to go ahead with, and some, we'll leave for now. I guess, not hubris, but we're all probably used to seeing St George's leading the way in many things, and that's good. However, in the rush to present things as 'normal' St George's won't be trail blazers. My priority for the rest of this term is calmness, continuity and stability. I am in no rush at all to start putting kids back on coaches for school trips, and i'm in no rush at all to resume what we now know are indeed mass gatherings -accordingly I do not believe the Summer fair should go ahead. I do not believe it is the right time to resume on mass swimming lessons either. We don't have sole use of the swimming baths, and we'd have to travel on a coach which additionally im not a fan of right now. Let's just see how we get on.
The staff have given so much over the last 12 months, and now, as we hopefully return to an increasing normality it's time to give back. I'm nervous about relaxing the rules, and I guess i'm not alone. I would prefer, out of courtesy and respect to wait untill all staff have been double jabbed, which will be the case by September.
My focus for the next term is not school trips, walking day, or the sumemr fair, it's on kids - all kids coming to school in a safe envrionment with any risk reduced as low as it can be, and on staff, continuing to give, but knowing there's no pressure, or expectation beyond keeping themselves, and their kids safe.
That said, we will be gradually re introducing clubs. This has started.
I do hope, and am planning on, taking year 6 away for a couple of nights.
I do hope, and plan on a leavers production for year 6 - hopefully outdoors, if not, we'll zoom it.
I do hope and plan on letting the year 6 sleepover.
All the dates will appear on the webpage.
We hope to get reports out to you a little earlier, on the 12th July with an optional parents evening being held after that, on the 14th and 15th of July (almost certainly on zoom)
Just bear with us please, and let us go slowly. On the matter of COVID, let's just pause in our tracks now and pray for the whole of India, where it appears to have spilt out of control a little.
