Welcome to this week’s newsletter!
Happy Friday, folks—it's the last day of term, and what a term it's been! The clocks have sprung forward, days are brighter, and Easter sits joyously on our doorstep, promising renewal, reflection, and of course, a chocolate egg or two! This week, Year 4 delivered a magnificent Easter service, reminding us all about the profound power of faith, hope, and community. Huge thanks and congratulations to everyone involved—you were sensational!
It's bittersweet news from our dear friend Fr Mike, whose tireless commitment and warmth have touched all our lives deeply. He'll be moving on this summer to embrace a new diocesan role and become parish priest near Whalley. While he'll be greatly missed, we're incredibly grateful for the solid leadership he's nurtured at St George's and All Saints'. Rest assured, we'll celebrate his legacy and contribution properly—he's left big shoes to fill, but he's also built a team ready and able to step forward confidently.
After Easter, we're buzzing with excitement to launch our new SCARF awards, designed to inspire and affirm all the wonderful behaviours that make St George’s such a brilliant place to learn, care, and share. Our kids are already phenomenal, but imagine how empowered and confident they'll become when they reflect on what their actions say about them—it's going to be amazing!
As we close this term, let's channel the words from the ever-inspiring film Rocky Balboa: "It ain't about how hard you hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward." We've tackled challenges together, we've thrived together, and together we’ll continue to soar.
And as The Beatles perfectly put it, “Here comes the sun, and I say it’s alright!” Bring on Easter, bring on renewal, bring on the chocolate—and bring on everything that makes St George’s spectacular.
Have a spectacular Easter everyone, take it easy,
Andy

Could we kindly ask all parents to clear any outstanding debts before the start of next term?
Some accounts are mounting up, and it is essential these are settled to ensure continued access to after-school care.
Sharon will be sending additional letters with further details, and your prompt attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated.
If you are unable to clear your debt please contact school, otherwise should the debt still persist after Easter access to they after school club care will have to be denied. Sorry.

SUNDAY 27TH APRIL 10.00AM CHURCH SERVICE
As part of the 200th anniversary celebrations of our church, there will be a special service led by Bishop Joe from Burnley. We warmly invite and strongly encourage all children to attend this special event, much like an Education Sunday. Children should arrive at church by 9.45am in full school uniform, ready to participate in the service, singing during communion. Following the service, there will be lots of fun activities including a bouncy castle, delicious food, BBQ, and prosecco for the adults. Let's come together as a school community and celebrate this significant milestone—your attendance and support would be greatly appreciated!
The church do loads for us - it will be nice to do a little pay back to be honest.

KIds who receive SEND support.

Attendance at school is incredibly important for children's success, confidence, and wellbeing. Here are five friendly and practical tips for parents to help support and improve your child's attendance:
-
Set Up Consistent Routines: Establishing regular bedtimes and morning routines helps your child feel secure and ready to learn, making mornings smoother and less stressful.
-
Celebrate Attendance Successes: Notice and praise your child for good attendance and punctuality. Positive reinforcement goes a long way and encourages continued effort.
-
Open Conversations About Attendance: Regularly discuss with your child why consistent school attendance matters and how it benefits their learning and friendships.
-
Stay Connected with School: Keep in touch with teachers and school staff if any attendance issues arise. Working together ensures we can quickly overcome barriers and offer the right support.
-
Encourage Reflection: Help your child to self-reflect on their attendance habits and discuss openly any challenges they're facing, supporting them in building a sense of responsibility and resilience.
Together, we can positively impact your child's school experience and future successes!

We’re incredibly excited to introduce our brand new SCARF Awards, which will officially replace our Rainbow Rewards after Easter. The kids are already buzzing about them; which is what it's all about really.
SCARF Awards are daily certificates worth two team points, thoughtfully celebrating children who consistently demonstrate behaviours reflecting our core SCARF values:
-
Safety
-
Caring
-
Achievement
-
Resilience
-
Friendship
These response certificates provide a quick yet meaningful way to reinforce and celebrate the values we cherish. Children will be motivated to collect the full set, earning recognition across all five SCARF values, and will be encouraged to work towards achieving Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards as they grow their collection. This exciting approach rewards sustained effort, consistency, and genuine growth rather than isolated achievements.
Each SCARF certificate includes a section entitled "What does this say about me?" We warmly encourage you, as parents and carers, to spend a few meaningful moments with your child completing this part. By reflecting on the qualities and actions behind the certificate, children gain powerful insights into their own strengths and character. You might ask your child:
👉 "What does this certificate say about you?" 👉 "What did you specifically do to earn this award?" 👉 "How can you repeat this great behaviour tomorrow?"
Possible examples to write include:
-
"It means I'm kind and always help my friends."
-
"It shows I am brave and try my hardest even when something feels difficult."
-
"This says I take responsibility for making safe choices."
These short, affirming conversations have the potential to deeply impact your child's confidence, resilience, and self-awareness. By consistently highlighting these positive attributes and reinforcing the value behind their choices, imagine how confident and empowered your child can become.
Thank you for your continued support as we embed our SCARF values deeply into daily life at St George's. Together, let's nurture children who are kind, resilient, confident, and aware of the wonderful strengths they each possess.

We would like to inform you about the planned changes to our school dinner pricing. Following recent recommendations from Lancashire Catering Service, there is a need to adjust meal prices due to ongoing inflationary pressures affecting food and labour costs. The recommended meal price is set to rise from £2.70 to £2.90. However, understanding the financial pressures on families, we have decided to defer this increase until September 2025, ensuring that there is no immediate impact on our school community. We remain committed to providing nutritious, high-quality meals that support our children's wellbeing and learning. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Today marked our delightful annual Easter chick hunt—a highlight of the school calendar that brought excitement and smiles to children's faces! A huge thank you to all our wonderful knitters for your incredible efforts and creativity. Your beautifully crafted chicks have once again made this event truly special. We greatly appreciate your time, skill, and generosity in bringing joy to our school community!

And so we arrive, perhaps slightly breathless, at the close of another bustling term. Like the journey of Holy Week itself, still some time off, our path this term has been both challenging and uplifting, filled with moments of quiet determination, joyous celebration, and occasional difficulty. Yet through every step, we've remained united, calm, relaxed, resilient, and supportive of one another—qualities that speak deeply to the spirit of our school community, and to be quite frank - they're often celebrated qualities, but they're not that hard to acquire - its just about being a decent person - it's really not hard.
As we pause to reflect on Easter's profound story, we're reminded of the shortest verse in the Bible, "Jesus wept" (John 11:35). Two simple words, but how deeply significant they are. They speak to vulnerability, empathy, and shared humanity. They remind us that strength doesn't come from never falling, but from rising again after each stumble. These moments of tenderness and compassion bind us closer together, teaching us that it is perfectly alright to feel deeply, care fiercely, and sometimes, yes, to weep openly.
So as we step into Easter, let's remember that after every moment of struggle comes a time of hope and renewal, echoing beautifully in the resurrection celebrated on Easter Sunday.
As you enjoy the Easter break, take a moment amidst the chocolate eggs and family gatherings to reflect quietly: When was the last time you allowed yourself to truly feel your emotions openly, as Jesus did? How might embracing that vulnerability enrich your connections with others and deepen your understanding of yourself?
Wishing you all a restful, joyful, and reflective Easter. See you refreshed and ready for the new term!
