Welcome to Term 2B – A Season of Growth and Renewal
And just like that, we step into Term 2B—the season of new beginnings, fresh perspectives, and a steady march toward spring. The days are stretching, the first green shoots will soon push through the soil, and there’s that sense—subtle, but real—that change is in the air.
Next week also brings Ash Wednesday (5th March)—marking the beginning of Lent, a time of reflection, renewal, and preparing our hearts for Easter. In our busy, noisy world, it’s easy to rush from one thing to the next without pausing, and tats really sad, but Ash Wednesday reminds us to take stock, refocus, and step forward with purpose. In Matthew 6:21, Jesus says, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Lent isn’t just about giving things up, but about shifting our focus—towards kindness, towards gratitude, and towards being the best version of ourselves.
MUGA Rules – Play with compassion, Play within the rules, morning MUGA is a time to play to have fun, not to win!
As we step into a new half-term, a reminder that our MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area) is a privilege, not a right! It’s there to be used fairly, safely, and with respect for others.
✅ Be inclusive – No one stands on the sidelines.
✅ Be fair – No one likes a sore loser, or a boastful winner!
✅ Be responsible – The rules are there for a reason.
✅ Be kind – It’s a game, not the World Cup Final!
And finally, let’s remember, Lent and spring aren’t just about change—they’re about growth. So as we move forward, let’s look after each other, push ourselves to be better, and make every day count.
As Dumbledore once said, “It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” Choose kindness. Choose determination. Choose to make this term one to remember. 🌿💙

RE Focus Week – Exploring Faith, Spirituality & Understanding
Next week marks RE Focus Week at St George’s, joined by the kids at Mossy Lea, a time where we dive deep into faith, spirituality, and what it truly means to live with purpose and belief. Throughout the week, children will explore different world religions, engage in meaningful discussions, and reflect on our own Christian faith, all while gaining a broader understanding of the diverse beliefs that shape the world around us.
At the heart of our own Christian faith, Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent with Ash Wednesday. Children will have the opportunity to be ashed by one of our Vicars if they wish to take part—a symbolic reminder of reflection, renewal, and preparation as we journey towards Easter.
A particularly special part of our week is the start of Ramadan—a sacred and significant time for our Muslim families. We recognise and respect the deep faith, discipline, and devotion that comes with this holy month. To our Muslim families, we send our warmest wishes as you begin this journey of reflection, prayer, and community. Ramadan Mubarak!
As part of our focus on faith in action, we will also be visiting the Chorley mosque to deepen our understanding of Islam:
📅 Year 6 – Monday (9.30 - 11.30)
📅 Year 5 – Tuesday (9.30 - 11.30)
📅 Year 4 – Thursday (9.30 - 11.30)
This is an incredible opportunity for our children to learn, ask questions, and grow in their understanding of different beliefs. Faith is about understanding, respect, and community, and we are proud to explore that together as a school.

Class 7 Easter egg donations for Chorley Help the Homeless

As part of one of our community links with Chorley Help the Homeless, I am kindly asking for the children in Class 7 to bring in an Easter egg over the next few weeks. These will be donated to the charity and given to families with children who perhaps would not otherwise receive an Easter egg.
We have supported Chorley Help the Homeless for several years now with more general food donations and toiletries which have been gratefully received and have helped numerous people in Chorley. It would be lovely to continue our support this year with Easter eggs.
Please send any donations into school with your child and we will make sure they are delivered to Chorley Help the Homeless.
Thank you in advance,
Mrs Makepeace.

Parents' Evening Bookings – Plus, We Want Your Views!
Parents' Evening bookings will go live on Scopay on Monday 3rd March at 10:00am. Simply log in to your Scopay app or account and book your preferred slot. Bookings will close on Monday 10th March at 10:00am, so be sure to secure your appointment before then!
But this Parents' Evening isn’t just about us talking to you—it’s about us listening to you too! I’d really value your thoughts on how we shape and improve our end-of-year reports. As you arrive, you’ll spot a QR code that will take you to a quick survey.
What do you want to see in your child’s report? Detailed accounts of English, maths, science, IT, and RE are a given, as are teacher comments and my own headteacher report. But what about the other foundation subjects? Are you interested in more detail on history, geography, PE, music, art, computing, French? What would be genuinely helpful for you as parents?
This is your chance to shape how we communicate your child’s progress. So please scan, click, and share your thoughts! We’re looking forward to seeing you and hearing from you. 💙

Helping Your Child Have Great School Attendance!
We know that life happens—illness, appointments, and the occasional rough morning are inevitable. But good attendance is one of the biggest factors in your child’s success and confidence at school. Here are a few simple ways to help make every school day count:
✅ Establish a Routine – A consistent bedtime and morning schedule makes mornings smoother and reduces last-minute rushes. A good night’s sleep = a better day at school.
✅ Prepare the Night Before – Lay out uniforms, pack bags, and avoid the morning scramble. It’s amazing how much calmer things feel when everything is ready to go!
✅ Book Appointments Outside School Hours Where Possible – Of course, some can’t be avoided, but where possible, try to schedule them later in the day so your child can attend school first.
✅ Make School a Priority – Talk positively about school! Show enthusiasm about their learning and friendships—kids pick up on our attitudes. If they see school as important, they’ll be more motivated to attend.
✅ Keep an Eye on Illness – We don’t want children in school if they’re genuinely unwell, but not every sniffle needs a day off. If they’d be well enough to go out and play, they’re well enough for school.
✅ Build Resilience – Teaching children that sometimes we don’t feel 100%, but we can still push through is a life lesson in itself. Encouraging grit and determination helps them cope with challenges in all areas of life.
✅ Stay in Touch – If you’re struggling with attendance, let us know. We’re here to help and can work together to find solutions that support your child.
Every day in school is a day full of learning, laughter, and opportunity. Let’s work together to make sure our children don’t miss a moment! Attendance matters—because every lesson counts. 💙

Payments & Clearing Accounts – A Gentle Reminder
As we edge closer to some of the brilliant trips planned for this year—including Bibbys Farm, PGL, and other exciting experiences—we kindly ask parents to keep up with payments where possible.
We completely understand that times are tough for many, and as always, we do our best to contribute towards trips to keep costs down. However, school simply can’t fully subsidise every trip for every child, which is why we rely on voluntary contributions from families who are in a position to support. These contributions help cover transport, activities, and ensuring all children get the most out of these incredible opportunities.
If you haven’t yet made payments for upcoming trips, or if your dinner account needs settling, please could we ask you to bring these up to date as soon as possible?
If you’re struggling with payments, please don’t ignore it—come and chat with us. We’ll always do what we can to help because we believe in giving every child these experiences. But, to continue providing amazing trips, we do need the support of those who can contribute.
Thank you for your understanding, your support, and for helping us make these trips memorable, meaningful, and possible for all. 💙

Young Voices – Absolutely Phenomenal! 🎶✨
Last night, at the time of writing, at the Co-Op Arena, our Young Voices choir, along with 7900 other kids did something truly special. They didn’t just sing—they filled the space with energy, passion, and pure joy. It was phenomenal. Seeing our kids up there, singing their hearts out alongside thousands of others, was a reminder of just how powerful music is—it unites, it inspires, and it creates memories that will last a lifetime. They were incredible, the atmosphere was electric, and the experience was one they’ll never forget.
A huge thank you to the staff who made it happen, the parents who supported, and most of all, the children, who showed once again that when they step up, they shine. St George’s—you absolutely smashed it! 🎤🌟
I'll set a gallery up on the website for you to enjoy. Thanks to all staff involved.

Perspective is everything. Imagine you’re driving—your signals are on point, your speed is perfect, you’ve been courteous all journey—but in one moment, you don’t let someone out at a junction. To them, you’re impatient, rude, inconsiderate, and they judge you as such. They don’t see the 99 times you waved someone through, slowed down for a pedestrian, or made space for another driver. They judge you on one tiny moment, not the bigger picture.
Schools are a bit like that. A thousand good things happen here every single day—moments of kindness, effort, encouragement, and success. But sometimes, it’s the one little thing that goes wrong that sticks. Alas, that’s human nature for some people. The truth is, we are all on the same journey, working towards the same goal—to make St George’s the best possible place for the kids in our care - to give them 7 years of beauty, calmness, happiness, safety and positivity, and to create mind pathways that they hen believe all that is possible.
So here’s the challenge: Let’s see the whole road, not just the one tricky junction. Let’s celebrate the good, work together on the challenges, and remember that when we lift each other up, we create something truly special. As the saying goes, “A rising tide lifts all boats.”
Here’s to another brilliant week of learning, laughter, and teamwork. Let’s keep moving forward—together. 💙
