As we draw this academic year to a close, I am compelled to pause and reflect on the journey that we, as the St George’s family, have taken together. It has been a journey marked by perseverance, dedication, and unwavering commitment.
Several remarkable individuals on our staff have demonstrated exceptional fortitude. Despite facing personal challenges that could only be likened to walking through the fires of hell, they chose to rise, showing up for the children with unyielding devotion, and taking only the most essential days off. Their resilience and steadfastness are a testament to their character and a reminder of the strength in our community.
It would be remiss not to acknowledge our invaluable PTFA, who have been nothing short of spectacular, and thank you very much to new members who are giving it a go. Thank you so much. The PTFA's tireless efforts in organizing fundraisers have taken a significant load off the shoulders of our staff, allowing us to focus on providing the best possible educational environment for our students. We owe you our deepest gratitude.
To our governors, thank you for your strategic oversight, your support, and your security. Your contributions do not go unnoticed. A special acknowledgment to our Chair, Canon Arnold, whose faith is evident in his unwavering commitment to the well-being of our students. He is an embodiment of our mission statement, "be determined and confident knowing God is with you."
In a delightful turn of events, we welcome back Mark, who has decided to rejoin us after a brief departure. Apparently, the pull of St. George’s was stronger than his desire to work closer to home! Mark, your return brings joy and a bit of fun banter to our halls, and we’re thrilled to have you back.
Through all the challenges and changes, St George's has remained a pillar of strength, upholding a successful, fun, business-like, and consistent environment. Our staff have been resilient, and not a single day was lost due to strikes, or COVID - but the general election did cause us a little difficulty!
I must highlight the brilliance that exists within our school. St George's, while not perfect, has an unassailable spirit that seeks to protect and uphold what is unique and extraordinary about our community. It is a beacon of brilliance in Chorley, and I am proud of the school, the kids, the staff, the governors, the whole school community. I am proud of my job, and what we achieve.
This year has been personally challenging for me as well, with the loss of my father to Alzheimer's. Watching a parent battle such a cruel disease is heart-wrenching, but it has also strengthened my resolve to emulate my dad, who dedicated his life to young people and education. His legacy inspires me every day to give my best to our school community.
As the scripture says in Joshua 1:9, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." This encapsulates our mission and belief, fueling our determination and instilling in us confidence. And as Dory wisely advised in *Finding Nemo*, "Just keep swimming."
To everyone in the St George’s community, your ongoing support and contribution have been invaluable. We cherish the role each one of you plays in making St George's the wonderful place it is.
As your headteacher, I see it as part of my responsibility to champion and defend our school’s reputation. To that end, I want to finish this letter by sending a resounding message of hope. We are the custodians of the next generation, and together, we can shape a future that is compassionate, bright, and filled with promise, and I will protect the name, its reputation and what it stands for every minute of the day. It's worth defending.
I look forward to seeing you all next term, ready to continue this fantastic journey together. Until then, I send my heartfelt thanks, extend my hope for a restful summer, and wish you all well.
All the best,
Andy
