Welcome to this week's newsletter! Just as England's performance in the Euros has been a thrilling rollercoaster, so too has this term been filled with ups and downs, excitement, and change. With Sir Keir Starmer now serving as Prime Minister following the recent general election, we're reminded of the power of change and new beginnings. In our own community, we've embraced numerous changes and challenges, always emerging stronger. As we continue to adapt and grow, let's carry forward the resilience and teamwork that have become our hallmark. Here's to another fantastic week at St. George's!

Celebrating Our Annual Focus Week at ST Georges
I am delighted to reflect on the incredible success of our annual Focus Week here at St George's, where our school community came together to celebrate the importance of experiencing and trying new experiences in the field of physical education. This week was a true testament to our commitment to fostering essential skills, exploring diverse subjects, and engaging in a variety of enriching activities.
Throughout the week, our kids immersed themselves in a range of exciting experiences to enhance their physical education. From receiving top-notch cricket coaching from the talented Tom Smith to conquering the climbing wall, skipping, and cycling, our pupils embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm and determination. These activities not only promoted physical wellbeing but also instilled a sense of confidence and resilience, in line with our school's mission statement.
As the headteacher, it fills me with immense pride to witness the children embodying determination and confidence, knowing that they are supported by a strong sense of faith. My vision for a school where children and staff genuinely look forward to coming each day, finding joy in learning, and striving for excellence has truly come to life during this Focus Week. My vision extends to the parents as well. As you drop your kids off with us, I hope your confident that they're safe, going to be well educated, have fun, and develop their confidence, create memories, and brain pathways of what they can do.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the staff who contributed to the success of this event, particularly Jenny Leap and Katie Blackledge, our dedicated PE leads. Despite being on maternity leave, Katie's influence and expertise were deeply felt throughout the week. Your hard work and unwavering commitment to our students' wellbeing and growth do not go unnoticed, and I am incredibly grateful for your contributions.
Thank you all for your continued dedication and for making this year's Focus Week a resounding triumph. Together, we have created a vibrant and nurturing environment where our children can flourish and thrive.

A note from The Governors
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to share some of our insights from our recent visit to school during sports Focus Week!
We were thrilled to see a wide array of activities that got every child moving and having fun. From energetic ninja warrior sessions and obstacle courses to team games and activities, the week was filled with opportunities for students to showcase their skills and try something new.
We were particularly impressed by the high levels of participation and excitement among the pupils. Children of all ages eagerly joined in and demonstrated a fantastic sense of teamwork and sportsmanship. It was heartening to see the smiles and hear the cheers echoing through the school.
It was clear that an incredible amount of planning and organisation had been put in to making the week a success, and we congratulate PE Subject Leader Jenny Leap and Katy Blackledge and all the staff for their hard work in planning and delivering such a diverse range of activities.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the parents and guardians for your continued support. Your encouragement and involvement play a crucial role in making events like PE Focus Week a success.
Best Regards,Simon, Ruth, Natalie, John

Gifts for Teachers
As is now a tradition in school, but for those parents who are new to us at Christmas and at end of year, we ask, with the utmost respect for you not to send gifts in. We ask primarily, if you’re happy with the work we have done, for your thanks – it is so powerful, and means so much. Many thanks

Monday 8th July
The PTFA pulled off a phenomenal Fair at Christmas didn't they? Every single penny raised at that Fair, went to the new equipment on the Junior Yard which is now useable, if not complete! Thank you so much. This is something that we would have never achieved with the PTFA who raised funds for it, and then organised it - amazing. I met with the PTFA last week, begun planning this Fair - It should be now on the Calendar. Funds this year will continue to develop the Junior Playground. We're hoping for a more substantial running track around the Muga, and to develop an outdoor Science area.
We have 3 “non uniform” days , these are calendared, thanks to Simon Newell who keeps the website much more up to date than I ever did, and on the Summer Fair news page that you can access from the website For those of you new to the school, we do not charge any money for the days, but ask if you would mind supplying us with bottles, any unused, or new soft toys, books, games, chocolates, toiletries, or any prizes that can be used for the tombola stall—just like we did at Christmas!
We won't be selling programmes this year, instead we will be charging £1.00 per family entrance fee, with us entering from the Junior Yard gate..
Raffle ticket will be sent over coming weeks! Prizes to be announced… Tickets are £1 a strip, please write your name on the reverse of your strips and return to school along with the money. Further tickets can be obtained from the office.
We are always looking for new sponsors to provide prizes for our raffles. If you, or the company you work for are able to provide a suitable prize, please contact me, or any member of the PTFA!
Can you provide us with any cakes, or refreshments of any type to sell at the Fair? These would be most gratefully received in school, on the Monday of the Fair. We did struggle with this at Christmas; I think it's a tradition that hasn't reignited post Covid. The cake stall previously a massive part of the Fair with all kinds of cakes sold. We really do rely on your donations here - so please, if you are able, can you do some baking please of anything - and send it in. If you can include the ingredients please that would be great, especially Nuts etc......
And finally… if nothing else; please come to school and support the PTFA in this major fundraising event! The fair will open at 6.00pm, and will be phenomenal. I know how hard the PTFA are working. I look forward to seeing you there! Let’s hope for great summer weather….
Stalls will be outside, on the MUGA, like they were at Christmas. Refreshments in the hall; year 6 games will be on the MUGA and Junior Yard this year - they're going for it this year, and are trying to make more than £60.00 on an enterprise project. Each group has had £10.00 starting point from the PTFA, and theyre aiming to double it - so spend big with Year 6 please!
There will also be Fair Rides which will be on the Junior Yard
The ice cream van will be on the Junior Yard
Pony rides will be on the infant yard with other exciting stalls including Face paints, Henna and Tattoos.
You will be able to access the school hall from the Infant or Junior Yard, cutting through school if necessary!
We will be asking for volunteers to help us set up, ticket up etc, manage stalls etc and this is another occasion when we really do rely upon your help. I will ask naomi to do this via Forms, again like we did at Christmas.

For Parents and Carers of our current Year 5 children
On September 13th 2024, the new Year 6 children will be jetting off to PGL Boreatton Park. The Residential Adventure Holiday is a wonderful annual trip which has been made by St. George's for decades now. The children will leave together from school by coach on the Morning of the 13th September, sleep over at PGL Friday, Saturday and Sunday night before returning to School on the afternoon of Monday 16th September. The trip has always been a great success and brings the Year 6 children together, forging new friendships, cementing old ones and pushing the children out of their comfort zones. It also gives them a massive confidence boost and taste of independence which invariably offers them a massive opportunity for social development.
Please check your SCOPAY account for details of the outstanding balance
As an attachment, there is a kit list (I appreciate that you will probably want to start sorting out gear before September). It will help you to see what kind of items will be needed for the trip.
Of course there will be a pre-trip meeting for the adults of current Y5 kids. this will take place on Wednesday 4th September 2024, at 6pm. Please enter through the school main entrance (a reminder will be sent out in the new academic year).

They may also wish to pack a spare TShirt/jumper and a sharpie that can be signed by their friends on the final day. There will be snacks and drinks provided during the disco and normal school rules will apply on mobile phones - if they need it for the next day, we will keep it in the safe in the office overnight.

As mentioned above, the children will be able to sign a spare jumper/tshirt on the final day. Sharpies are the best to do this and we don't have any in school - please send your child in with a suitable permanent pen.
The children will be dismissed in the usual way at 3:15 on Friday 19th July. Please, as always, let us know if there are any changes in your child's dismissal.

As the kids move up a year group, there are some changes for the new years 3's.
Remember that you now need to pay for school meals - unless of course you're entitled to FSM. The Universal free school meals only apply to infant kids.
remember to claim for free school meals even if you're in the infants - it does help the school budget out to be honest!
Year 3 School Meals
Leanne and the catering team prove that with the right people, the right determination, and by working together one can make a difference. This year, the number of kids having schools meals has been the highest we've ever known. Its been amazing. They do a stunning job in the kitchen. Refudbishing the kitchen has made it onto the school development plan at long last - and this is something we hope to do during Autumn Term keeping dinners hotter, fresher for longer, and serving them in modern, convenient plates and bowels. Should be lovely, if we can afford to do it!
As Year 2 children move into the juniors they will no longer be entitled to a universal free school meal. School meals for Junior kids will be charged at £2.70 (I think) per day from September. Junior kids have 4 choices, a meat choice, a veggie choice, a Jacket Potatoe or a grab and go sandwich bag. Your child can choose what they want each day, on the day, or pre book. Kids on school meals are given a coloured wrist band that corresponds to their choice of food....
As implied above, sadly we are having to increase the cost of things.
In line with lancashire guidance, to break even we are having to increase the cost of school meals. From September school meals will cost £2.70 per day, which to be honest is still very good value. The usual 4 choices are available for Junior kids - we include a sandwich grab and go bag for them to choose from. Children in year 3 onwards choose their meal on the day. The menu is posted on SCO pay
We are also increasing the cost of wrap around care, once again, to cover the increase in salary, and food costs.
Breakfast club will rise to £5.70
There are 2 charges for late stay - £5.70 if picked up before 4.30pm, and £7.70 for the 5.30pm pick up.

It's been an ace week at school, and lovely to be joined by Mossy. The week has been fantastic. The week was truly stunning, filled with energy and enthusiasm from the kids. We witnessed incredible teamwork, growth mindset, and determination in all our young athletes.
As we wrap up this exciting week, let's remember the wise words of Winnie the Pooh, "In the midst of movement and chaos, keep stillness inside of you."
Thank you to all our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and amazing children for making this week a huge success. Together, we continue to inspire and nurture the young minds of tomorrow.
Wishing everyone a lovely weekend.
Andy
