Class 8

Autumn 1

I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all the pupils and parents who are joining Class 8. I hope you had a wonderful summer break and have made lots of great memories. We have made an incredible start to the year in Class 8. The way the children have settled back in, and displayed an outstanding attitude and commitment to their learning, has made me very excited about the year ahead. I am Simon Ball and I will be your child's teacher for this academic year. Mrs Turner will also be teaching the class on a Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. We both look forward to helping this group continue to develop and flourish at St George's.

Our theme for this half-term is 'What makes Britain Great?', which will be used to tie together the different subjects and topics we are covering this half-term. The curriculum letter and homework menu attached below will give you more information on this and how you can support your child at home to maximise their learning at home. If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch at s.ball@st-georges.lancs.sch.uk.

Autumn 2

After a great first term, I am excited about the start of another term. This half-term we will be looking to build on the amazing progress we made last term and the topics we will be covering are in the curriculum letter below. As always, we appreciate you reinforcing your child's learning at home as much as possible. Ways to do this include; reading with your child as much as possible, practising spellings and timestables; and engaging your child in discussing their learning as much as possible.

The theme for this half-term is 'who do you think you are?' as we look back to the Anglo-Saxons and how they shaped Britain. This history unit will give us lots of opportunities for enriching the pupils to learn with unique experiences and outdoor learning. This will include accessing the new forest school being established at St Georges for a day of activities related to the daily life of the Anglo-Saxons.

The homework menu has been attached below, so please refer to this for guidance on the projects your child can complete this half-term. It also sets out the compulsory homework they should be completing on a weekly basis.

If you have any questions then please don't hesitate to get in touch at s.ball@st-georges.lancs.sch.uk.
