And we're off, but what have we been upto.....

Class 4 started the day with a classroom that had been 'tidied up' a bit too much. Someone had even put all the pencil pots in the bin because they looked 'scruffy '. We have been investigating and have found a story about a badger. We can't wait to find out more next week!

Class 7 walked into a room filled with leaves, glitter, words on tables and torn map pieces amongst other things. They had to be detectives to work out how all these things linked together as a clue to our new English unit. They think they know but haven’t had their ideas confirmed…

Class 5 had a very exciting morning! The children arrived to find our classroom was now in fact ‘a seaside’. The children had lots of interesting and exciting resources to explore as we immersed ourselves in our first topic of the year. The children generated lots of questions, shared their prior knowledge and made predictions as to what our first literacy text might be. Well done Class 5 🐠🌊🐬⛱🏖☀️

Year 5 came in to school this week to find a mystery to solve. A mysterious addition, holding a pen and sat in front of a ‘blank’ piece of paper was in Class 9 and Class 10 had been turned into a French café, train station, cinema and toy shop. Year 5 wasted little time following the clues to unravel the secret of the ‘blank’ paper and began to make excellent links between the different areas that they found. There were some fantastic examples of inference too. We think it all has something to do with a little boy called Hugo. We’ll let you know more as we find out more…. As we begin to read our text, 'The Invention of Hugo Cabret', perhaps the pieces of the puzzle will fall into place.

Y6 well and truly kicked off our first English unit in Y6 this morning with an air raid! The children had to flee the classroom and make their way down to our own air raid shelter where they explored newspapers from during WW2, propaganda posters, gas masks, played games & had a rationing snack. They were then evacuated to the countryside for their own safety where we began reading our focus text ‘Goodnight Mr Tom’
