Welcome Message
Moses, in his farewell address to the Israelites before they entered the Promised Land of Canaan said they should,
"Be determined and confident, as God will be with you*
"I have come that they might have life – life in all its fullness.” John 10:10
These words of Jesus inspire our work at St George's, a Church of England Primary School within the Diocese of Blackburn, located in the heart of Chorley.
Our vision for the St George's community, encompassing both children and adults, is inspired by the words of Moses: "Be determined and confident, as God will be with you" as we learn, care, and share through work, play, and prayer. As a Church of England school, we are committed to providing an education for life. We aim to equip everyone with the skills, resilience, and knowledge to experience and enjoy "life in all its fullness."
St George’s is a distinguished Primary School, traditional in its educational approach, yet recognised by the government as a 21st Century National Leader in Primary Education. We were honoured with an Outstanding rating by OFSTED in May 2012, and by the Diocese. This recognition has only fueled our drive to achieve even greater heights.
We take pride in being a leading Church school in Lancashire, with an exceptional team of professionals dedicated to achieving the highest standards within an environment of Christian love and care. This nurturing atmosphere ensures that all our children develop high self-esteem through achieving their personal potential.
As Headteacher, I am committed to ensuring that the children of St George’s are happy, content, hardworking, and successful. Our staff are devoted to challenging and encouraging every child’s learning journey. I want our school to be a place where children are eager to come, filled with pleasure, excitement, and contentment – not just a place they feel obligated to attend. I believe in motivating children to become highly talented, independent learners who thrive. Our dynamic and highly praised Primary Curriculum mirrors real-life experiences, encouraging children to think imaginatively, learn enthusiastically, and make choices intelligently.
The ethos of our school is purposeful, calm, and joyful. St. George’s is a place of pride, order, and tranquillity, achieved through discipline, high expectations, courtesy, and creativity. We strive to work closely with parents and carers to ensure success for every child in our care.
We prepare children for their future, not our past. The potential and talent of today’s children are incredible; our mission is to discover, unlock, and enhance that potential, and unleash their talent.
The phrase, "actions speak louder than words," is particularly relevant here. While I could extol the virtues of St. George's endlessly, the true essence of our school is best experienced in person. Please feel free to contact me, Sharon, or Anna, our office staff, to arrange a visit at your convenience. I look forward to meeting you soon.
Thank you for considering St. George's for your child's education. I wish you and your child every happiness in the future.
Take care,
Andy Purcell Headteacher
